Jakarta, July 24, 2026 – Understanding a nation requires more than textbooks or classroom lectures. There are dimensions that can only be appreciated through direct interaction with a country's representatives—listening firsthand to explanations about its system of government, social values, and the perspectives of its people from those who live and work within that society. Educational visits to diplomatic institutions provide a dynamic learning environment where theories of politics, culture, and international relations intersect with the realities of diplomacy in practice.

Driven by this educational objective, the English Literature Study Program at Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) organized an official visit to the Embassy of Switzerland in Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026.

According to Mr. Todo Sibuea Faraday, M.Hum., Head of the English Literature Study Program at UNDIRA, who personally accompanied the delegation throughout the visit, the program served as a valuable learning opportunity for 24 students from the second through sixth semesters, along with two alumni representatives from the English Literature Study Program. The visit was designed to deepen students' understanding of ethnological perspectives related to Swiss society, particularly in the areas of social development, politics, and culture.

"Visits like this provide students with learning experiences that simply cannot be replicated in the classroom. They not only have the opportunity to practice English in an authentic setting, but they also gain a deeper understanding of how another nation views its own political system, social values, and cultural identity," said Mr. Todo Sibuea.

The UNDIRA delegation was warmly welcomed by Ms. Anna Muller, Ms. Jolanda Pfister, and Ms. Palupi, representatives of the Embassy of Switzerland. During the session, they delivered an engaging presentation introducing various aspects of Switzerland, including its political and social systems, cultural heritage, and the characteristics that shape Swiss society.

Throughout the discussion, the Swiss diplomats enthusiastically answered students' questions on a wide range of topics concerning Switzerland's governance, culture, and diplomatic relations, including the country's diplomatic mission and cooperation with Indonesia.

The opportunity to engage directly with foreign diplomats also strengthened the students' confidence while broadening their understanding of governance, intercultural communication, and international relations through meaningful, real-world dialogue.

To conclude the session, the students received comprehensive information about international scholarship opportunities funded by the Swiss government as part of its commitment to supporting educational development among Indonesia's younger generation. These scholarship programs are designed to provide broader access to higher education at leading universities across Switzerland, offering financial support that includes tuition fees, living expenses, and research funding.

Through this visit, the English Literature Study Program at UNDIRA hopes not only to broaden students' knowledge of governance and cross-cultural understanding but also to inspire them to pursue greater academic curiosity and global engagement in the years ahead.
