Jakarta, July 6, 2026 — Communication is far more than the exchange of information. As an academic discipline, it explores how people create meaning, build trust, and influence others through messages, ultimately driving change within individuals, groups, organizations, and society. In professional practice, communication is inseparable from ethics and professionalism, both of which play a fundamental role in establishing credibility and lasting relationships.

To reinforce these values, the Communication Studies Program of Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA), through its Professional Image course, once again held its Batch 9 Table Manners Program at Putri Duyung Resort, Ancol, North Jakarta, on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Carrying the theme "Elegant Dining, A Pathway to Professional Success," the program emphasized that career success is shaped not only by technical competence but also by etiquette, professionalism, and the ability to conduct oneself appropriately in both social and professional settings.

In his opening remarks, Jantar Pascal Christian Umpung, Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including Poros Jakarta as the event sponsor. He also shared his hope that the program, attended by 80 Communication Studies students, would have a lasting impact in developing future professionals who possess both competence and integrity.

Kornelia Johana Dacosta, M.I.Kom., one of the lecturers for the Professional Image course, highlighted that the knowledge gained from the subject serves as a valuable foundation for students' future careers.

This message was echoed by entrepreneur and motivational speaker Fajar Surya Budiman, S.E., C.EP., who emphasized that success is built upon trust established through strong personal branding and credibility. According to him, trust is cultivated through consistent small actions and a genuine willingness to improve oneself.

"Today, many graduates have cum laude GPAs and exceptional skill sets. However, companies are not simply looking for the smartest candidates. They are looking for people they can trust. The anatomy of success consists of only 10 percent skills and expertise, while the remaining 90 percent lies in character and charisma. Trust also enables us to build strong teams, encouraging collaboration and a continuous desire to learn."

The program also featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Leila Mona Ganiem, S.Pd., M.Si., CPR., CICS., a Grooming Expert, who combined presentations with hands-on practice to demonstrate how grooming enhances a professional image. She explained that grooming goes beyond appearance. It strengthens personal branding, makes individuals more memorable, helps them connect naturally with others, and keeps them relevant in today's dynamic professional environment, all while boosting confidence.

She further explained that personal branding is an integral part of a broader brand strategy aimed at increasing awareness.

"Being casual doesn't mean being unprepared. You should always be ready for important occasions." According to Dr. Leila, one's appearance is a creative expression of personal branding.

She also emphasized that developing a strong professional image requires attention to body language, posture, and proper handshake etiquette, ensuring that every gesture reflects warmth and professionalism. From a communication perspective, first impressions also depend on digital grooming, including being mindful of conversation topics, both online and in face-to-face interactions.

The event concluded with a Beauty Class led by Elis Sumarni, S.I.Kom., a Beauty Expert and alumna of UNDIRA's Communication Studies Program. During the session, participants were guided through practical beauty techniques designed to complement their professional appearance.

Also attending the event was Dr. Harjono Padmono Putro, S.T., M.Kom., Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, who expressed his appreciation for the successful implementation of the Batch 9 Table Manners Program. He encouraged students to apply the knowledge they had gained consistently as they prepare to enter the professional world.

"I hope today's lessons will not only be understood but also practiced consistently, enabling our Communication Studies students to pursue successful careers in the future. I also hope this Table Manners Program will continue to grow, bringing even more innovative and impactful initiatives in the years ahead."

With the successful completion of the Batch 9 Table Manners Program, the Communication Studies Program at Universitas Dian Nusantara hopes its students are now better prepared in terms of professional etiquette, personal presentation, and character, equipping them to face the challenges of today's increasingly competitive workplace with confidence and integrity.
