Jakarta, June 28, 2026 – Although artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed the creative landscape and streamlined artistic production, the essence of human interest continues to inspire irreplaceable and authentic works. Amid its growing prominence, photography remains a timeless medium that captures human emotions, preserves history, and tells stories that transcend generations. More than simply freezing moments in time, photography serves as a silent witness that evokes reflection and sustains meaningful narratives.

Inspired by this vision, students of the Communication Studies Program at Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) organized the 2025/2026 Even Semester Photography Exhibition, titled "Lens of Humanity: Stories Behind Life," held on June 26–27, 2026, on the sixth floor of UNDIRA's Tanjung Duren Campus in West Jakarta.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Prof. Dr. H. Suharyadi, M.S., Rector of Dian Nusantara University. Centered on the everyday lives of Jakarta residents, the exhibition showcased 56 outstanding photographic works created by 54 Communication Studies students.

The displayed photographs were produced as the final projects for the Visual Photography and Content course, which is designed to strengthen students' technical photography skills, cultivate social awareness, and develop their ability to communicate compelling visual narratives through the camera lens.

The exhibition was also attended by Ir. Margono Sugeng, M.Sc., Vice Rector I; Dr. Harjono Padmono Putro, S.T., M.Kom., Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences (FBIS); along with faculty members of the Communication Studies Program. They expressed their appreciation for the students' creativity and encouraged the continuation of similar exhibitions that consistently showcase high-quality visual works.

As the chairperson of the event and lecturer of the Visual Photography and Content course, Suswinda Ningsih, S.Pd., M.I.Kom., emphasized that the exhibition represented far more than the completion of a final course assignment. Instead, it demonstrated that in today's digital era, photography continues to strengthen collaboration, refine technical competence, and encourage creativity among young generations.

"The Lens of Humanity exhibition is not merely a creative platform for students. It also helps foster an ecosystem where visual production competencies and collaborative culture complement one another to produce impactful journalistic impressions," said Suswinda.

Beyond displaying students' finest works, the exhibition also served as a platform for disseminating knowledge in visual communication. During a public session, guest speaker Dr. Syaiful Anwar, S.Sos., M.M., a lecturer from STIE Bogor and a media practitioner, highlighted photography as a timeless expression of human ingenuity that technology can never truly replace.

"A single visual frame possesses a unique power to transcend space, time, language, and geography. Photography is an art form fundamentally different from what we usually study through theory alone. While theoretical learning primarily engages the left hemisphere of the brain, creating timeless photographs with powerful narratives relies on the right hemisphere—the center of creativity and imagination," he explained.

Echoing this perspective, Joni Arman Hamid, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., lecturer of the Visual Photography and Content course at UNDIRA, added that photography represents one of the purest forms of human interest, capable of nurturing empathy and storytelling through visual expression.

"Photography is not merely about filters or the final image. It is about our ability to observe, understand reality as it unfolds, and capture the depth of human thought and experience," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Fachruddin, Chair of the Student Organizing Committee, expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm, dedication, and solidarity demonstrated by the organizing committee and fellow Communication Studies students throughout the event.

"I hope exhibitions like this will continue to be held as a platform for students to present original and meaningful photographic works. A photography exhibition is not simply a venue for displaying images; it is also a space for exchanging ideas, fostering creativity, and cultivating a stronger appreciation for visual arts within the academic community," he concluded.
