Expanding Insights of Water Management Industry: UNDIRA Electrical Engineering Program Conducts Industrial Visit to the PIK 2 Water Control System
Jakarta, June 23, 2026 – The rapid expansion of urban areas has led to increasing demands for infrastructure in the Industry 4.0 era, particularly in the field of water management. As a result, the need for more advanced and optimized water control systems has become significantly greater than in previous years.
In practical implementation, most modern water management systems no longer rely on conventional methods involving direct manual observation. With the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), electronic technologies can now be more easily integrated into various systems, enabling control and monitoring processes to be carried out more efficiently through automation.
In line with the topic of system utilization and optimization within the water management industry, 30 students from the Electrical Engineering Study Program of Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) under the association of Electrical Engineering Students Association (HIMATRO), accompanied by three faculty members, conducted a company visit to Pump Station 3 of Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 (PIK 2), operated by Agung Sedayu Group, on June 19, 2026.
Carrying the theme, "Exploring Automation, Control, and Power Distribution Technologies for Water Management Systems at PIK 2," the visit was designed to bridge the gap between the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and the real-world application of electrical and automation technologies in a large-scale industrial environment.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into how modern water management systems are designed and operated. According to representatives from Agung Sedayu Group, which manages Pump Station 3 at PIK 2, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system serves as the backbone of an integrated monitoring platform, connecting multiple control points into a centralized, responsive, and efficient system.
At the same time, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and IoT technologies function as the system's “brain,” processing commands automatically, while a network of sensors and actuators acts as its “senses,” detecting and responding to changes in water conditions in real time.
Through this system, operators can centrally monitor critical electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and power factor. This capability not only accelerates response times in flood mitigation efforts but also minimizes the risk of workplace accidents caused by high-voltage insulation failures.
According to Agung Sedayu Group PIK 2, this technological approach represents the most effective solution for addressing water management challenges in large-scale developments while simultaneously enhancing overall operational efficiency.
Dr. Arie Pangesti Ajie, Head of the Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNDIRA, who personally attended the visit, emphasized the importance of field experience as an integral component of Electrical Engineering education.
"This visit to the PIK 2 Pump Station is part of our commitment to ensuring that UNDIRA Electrical Engineering students not only master theoretical concepts but are also fully prepared to face real-world industrial challenges. Witnessing firsthand how SCADA, PLC, and IoT technologies operate in an integrated industrial-scale environment is an experience that no laboratory simulation can truly replicate. We hope that the knowledge gained today will strengthen our students’ foundations and empower them to contribute to the development of Indonesia’s smart infrastructure in the future," said Dr. Arie Pangesti

For UNDIRA students, the visit opened a new perspective: smart infrastructure is not merely a futuristic concept discussed in academic journals, but a reality that is already being implemented and continuously evolving in the field.

Equipped with the practical insights gained from this experience, the Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNDIRA hopes to produce graduates who not only understand technology but are also capable of becoming part of the solution to Indonesia’s ever-evolving urban infrastructure challenges.
